Repurposed Bamboo Tray From Thrift Store
One of the things that I enjoy most about thrifting is the thrill of the hunt. If I see a visually appealing item, I normally pick it up; even though I have no idea what I plan to use it for. It just goes into my stash until creativity hits!
On my last visit, I found this beautiful bamboo tray. It still had the original price tag on the back. The bamboo tray was from At Home and was priced at $39.99. It did not have the thrift store price attached. I placed it in my cart and at the checkout, I would ask the cashier for a price.
Bamboo has a rustic, earthy tone and is versatile and visually appealing. Even though it looked to be a tray, its versatility makes it a great home decor project.
Also during my hunt, I found this boxwood wreath in the Christmas decor section of the thrift store. Greenery wreaths add depth to your home decor and bring a little of nature inside. At only $3.99 it was a steal.
I always pick them up if I see them because they are cheaper than purchasing new ones. This boxwood wreath at Hobby Lobby would cost you $24.99 (depending on the size). Of course, you can also purchase them when they are on sale at 50% off.
While organizing my thrift store stash, I had the bamboo tray and the boxwood wreath on top of each other in one of my plastic bins. Suddenly, I had a light bulb moment.
Sometimes, I find myself overthinking before I start a thrifting project. This time, I just went with the flow—no overthinking at all. I did not paint or make any changes. Just a minor modification is all the bamboo tray would need.
Cleaning The Repurposed Bamboo Tray and Boxwood Wreath
I took a Lysol wipe and wiped down the round bamboo tray and the box wreath, removing all the dust it had collected from sitting on the thrift store shelf.
Attaching the Boxwood Wreath to the Bamboo Tray
I used a thumb tack to hang the boxwood wreath on the bamboo tray. The wreath already had a hook on the back for hanging purposes.
I just eyeballed the center, but you can certainly measure it.
Hanging The Repurposed Bamboo Tray
I decided to hang the piece on a blank wall in my living room. To protect my wall, I used a 3M strip.
This unique repurposed bamboo tray can be seen as visitors walk through our front door. It is always a conversation starter piece!
Tip: You could also use a picture easel and set it on top of a cabinet or buffet, the possibilities are endless. It would also make a perfect centerpiece on a fireplace mantel.
How easy was that? A beautiful home decor piece for around $7 bucks and no work! Can’t beat that right?! Of course, if you are not a fan of brown bamboo, it can be painted white or whitewashed for a different look.
You could even paint the outside white and leave the bamboo in its original state.
I just love an easy repurposed project! Have you repurposed an item from the thrift store?
