My Latest Thrift Store Haul And Answering Questions From My Followers

I love sharing my thrift store adventures! Thrift store finds.  This was my first real thrift store haul since getting back into the DIY business.  The Hubs accompanied me(a.k.a. “D”) and we had so much fun! We filled up the backseat of his truck!

He is a content creator and loves to create videos! Thank goodness, because that’s the part of the job that I actually hate being in front of a camera, but I am trying to get better.

Why I Thrift

Thrifting can be so much fun! It’s incredibly satisfying to find unique and one-of-a-kind items that you wouldn’t come across in regular stores. The thrill of the hunt and the anticipation of stumbling upon a hidden gem can make the experience so enjoyable.

Did you know that thrift shopping is also great for the environment, as well as your wallet? It’s a sustainable way to shop, as it gives a second life to pre-loved items and reduces waste.

Plus, the affordable prices make it possible to experiment with different styles and decor without breaking the bank. Lastly, there’s a sense of accomplishment and creativity in upcycling and repurposing thrifted items, turning them into something new and personalized.

What Do You Look For At The Thrift Store

I honestly would buy everything I see if I could. However, I am not sure D would be so happy about that lol! Here are a few of my favorite things to thrift.

Items Made of Wood

One of the items that I look for at a thrift store is anything that might be made from real wood.  Real wood item pieces are easy to makeover, sometimes it’s as simple as adding paint! And sometimes you do not have to do anything to them at all.

Digging at the thrift store is something that I enjoy doing especially if there are bins of stuff! I found this small wooden bowl buried under some other items. My plan is to bleach it like other tutorials I have seen to make it lighter wood and use it as a centerpiece in my kitchen, or maybe in my living room.

I also found this rolling pin.  Anytime I see these, I snag them up!  They are hard to come by, but they make gorgeous decor pieces.

Do you Ever Use Thrift Store Items As Is?

Absolutely! While I don’t always use a thrift store item as is, there have been things that I have found that could certainly be used by just cleaning them up. When I thrift for items, I like to turn them into unique home decor that fits my style.

Use As Is Thrift Store Items

A good example is this beautiful basket. The only thing that was wrong with it was it was a bit dusty and the twine needed to be tightened that holds the ceramic piece in place.

It would be a beautiful addition to a nursery or even a book nook.

These ceramic flowers came home with me as well.  They were from Hobby Lobby and were only $4.99 for both.  The original price at Hobby Lobby was $16.99 which would have still been a little over eight bucks. So the $4.99 wasn’t a bad price.

All they needed was a good cleaning. They came with a wall hangar and would look great if used with a gallery wall or above a small piece of furniture.

Unique Finds

This was my favorite find!  How adorable is this sailboat? I love it the way it looks, but it could use a little loving. I paid $7.99 but it was in great condition. It looks like someone hand-made it but then didn’t want it boo! My son has since appropriated it for himself.

This desk organizer was a unique find! Although it was a plastic material, I did some research on Google. It is dated from the 1970’s – 80’s (I researched it). Here is one I found on Etsy. I also saw where they are selling on eBay for around thirty bucks.

Do You Immediately Know What To Do With The Item

Sometimes yes, other times nope! After I bring my thrift store finds home and add them to my collection, they might sit there for a bit before inspiration hits!  And that’s okay.

However, there have been occasions when I see a piece in the thrift store and know exactly what I want to do with it!  But that’s not very often because my mind is old and I have to really concentrate on something.

But, I do have days that my mind is going crazy. You know, like having a bazillion tabs open on your desktop? When creativity hits, I have to go with it! The best thing that I have found is to write it down. Get it out of my head.

So, I do braindumps when my mind starts in overdrive. Sometimes its a simple as scrolling Pinterest and all of a sudden, inspiration hits!
