Thrift Store Corkboard Makeover

Used corkboards are one of those items that I never pass up at the thrift store. They are easy to upcycle, and they are normally pretty cheap! I found this one for.79 cents at my local Goodwill store. This thrift store corkboard makeover will be done in a matter of minutes!

This upcycle took like fifteen minutes. Literally. The corkboard had one ugly spot so I decided to cover it with some leftover fabric. It was a piece of cow print fabric I had from a stool redo.

Cow Print Fabric For Corkboard Makeover

I used painter’s tape and taped off the corkboard to protect the cork from the paint. My first thought was to remove the cork from the frame but decided since it was from the thrift store not to remove it.

Painting The Frame

I had a small amount of Dixie Belle Caviar left over, so I decided to paint the frame black.

It took two coats of paint to fully cover the frame. To give it a rustic, farmhouse look, I used a piece of 220-grit sandpaper to distress the edges.

After removing the painter’s tape, I placed the fabric on top of the corkboard to mark and measure the size of the fabric that would be needed to cover the cork area.

Applying The Cow Fabric To the Corkboard

To apply the cow print fabric, I used my SureBound glue gun and applied a light coat of hot glue around the edges. I used my hand to smooth out any wrinkles in the fabric.

And there you have it! A super easy thrift store DIY that anyone can do!

Keep in mind while shopping at the thrift store, you can find items that only need cleaning up before using. If you’re not a painter or a DIYer, look for pieces that you can use as is. Like this beautiful French country-looking basket I found for $4.99 (in the above image).

I simply wiped it down with a Lysol wipe and then styled it for my bedroom which has hints of green.
